The problem is not just the graphics, the the overall presentarion in everything, It is just a generic collect-aton, like playing any Lego, generic spiderman, Prototype, Infamous type of game. Is not that it looks "bad", is just that everything just looks "meh". And I think that’s being mistaken for "bad graphics" by some people. I might be wrong, but I believe the more simple design enables that highly satisfying gameplay. at least, not in a way that I find as satisfying as Crackdown (although, maybe CyberPunk will have something approximating this?). And conversely, I can‘t climb and run across rooftops jumping from building to building in a giant city, in either of those games. Compared to CyberPunk, the graphics are lacking. Compared to Mario, the platforming is lacking. Additionally, I can understand why Crackdown has a more simple design aesthetic no matter who is developing the game, because your character needs to traverse the environment without getting hung up on salient details. I’m not sure I could fairly hold any developer to their standards. But I do find holding Sumo Digital to the same standard as CDPR, to be unfair. I think you might be misunderstanding my point of view. You use the scale of the game as an excuse for its visual shortcomings, but also seem to argue against criticisms of its visual shortcomings You blamed the platformer design for the graphics criticisms, then find in unfair to compare it to other platformers. That's not the case, we just think it's a flawed product. I feel like you're defending the game simply because you don't want it criticized, even if the criticism is fair, almost as a fear that you think we want you to feel badly for liking the game. It's not unfair to point out the drawbacks of this game, nor does it mean the game is outright bad. I think the big problem is that people these days are so defensive towards criticism. Also, while working on a scale we've not really seen before, it's also got a LOT more compute power than any other modern game, since it's backed by the Azure servers for its physics. That's why I (and others) keep referring to this game as basically a sacrificial lamb to the review community, in order to be a tech demo of cloud-based gaming, especially as they try to make XCloud work. The two biggest are the lack of meaningful content and the visuals, it seems. However, you have to concede that there are drawbacks to the ambition. Yeah, Crackdown is built to a physics scale that isn't normal in gaming, fair. However, I'd say that even stepping back to 2014's Sunset Overdrive, which had a LOT less time to bake and probably a lot less staff trying to make it work, presents you with another bright, vibrant game that does a lot better in the visuals department. So, to look at one with great visuals, and then look at Crackdown, it's an understandable letdown. You use the scale of the game as an excuse for its visual shortcomings, but also seem to argue against criticisms of its visual shortcomings.Ĭyberpunk, from an art style standpoint, is probably the closest modern game aesthetic we have to compare. ![]() ![]() You see the problem with your argument, right?
